Designing websites is a big part of the creative marketing scope we cover at Team BG. For this blog post, our expert Senior Creative Specialist Peter Bates takes us through the fundamentals of a good web design strategy and how we do design at BG.
Design with Intention
Whenever you design a website, it’s important to design with intention. What this means is that there is a rhyme and reason to the elements you include with your design, as well as a thought that envisions how users might experience your site.
Keywords are everything
The words you use on your website are just as important as any visual elements you include. Prioritize choosing words that speak to both your brand and end goal. Keep keywords on your radar, which are the exact words or phrases that could redirect individuals to your website from a Google search. For example, if you’re looking for a digital marketing agency like BG, you might browse the internet using words like: “Digital marketing agency,” “Boston marketing agency”, etc. It’s important to know which relevant keywords people might be typing in to search for sites like yours. Certain platforms like Google Analytics can help give you a glimpse into which keywords are driving the most traffic to your site. Once you know what those keywords are, they should be woven into the copy for your website to improve the likelihood that you’ll appear in an online search.
Simplicity is Key
When it comes to web design, simplicity is key. Making a website that’s easy to navigate, understand and use is vital to successful web design. Visitors to your site will be deterred by a layout that is too complicated or a navigation menu that’s too crowded. The user experience should always be top of mind. Think of how someone with no knowledge of your business or industry might try to use your site in their search for information. Can they easily understand your content and find the answers they’re looking for on your webpage?
Interactive Elements
To call attention to an important segment on your website or inspire your site visitors take a specific action, incorporating interactive elements can be very effective . Interactive elements can range from hover-effects on images, text or from buttons to animated gifs and 3D product models. These often-animated elements help catch the eye and offer an interesting visual break from more static content.
